The 1756-EN2T is a part of the ControlLogix Communication Module series. It is an EtherNet/IP interface communication module that supports general messaging, real-time I/O messaging, and information exchange for applications like Real-Time Control, Time Synchronization, and Motion. The module also adheres to the CIP safety standard, allowing the simultaneous transfer of safety and control data, as well as diagnostics information. It utilizes advanced communication chips and physical media.

Supporting communication rates of 10 to 100 Mbps over EtherNet/IP, the 1756-EN2T uses twisted pair copper media. It supports up to 256 Logix and 128 TCP/IP communication connections, and can accommodate a maximum of 8 axes for integrated motion on the EtherNet/IP network. The module draws 1 A current at 5.1 Volts DC, with a maximum power dissipation of 5.1 Watts and thermal dissipation of 17.4 BTU/hour. It can be installed in any slot within the ControlLogix Chassis and uses unshielded RJ45, category 5, twisted-pair cable connectors for wiring.

To operate an EtherNet/IP network, parameters such as IP address, Subnet masks, Gateway, etc. must be configured. The module facilitates functions like support for messaging, distributed I/O, and tags. It encapsulates messages within the standard TCP/IP protocol. Additionally, ControlNet and DeviceNet network protocols allow it to share a common application layer, without the need for scheduling or a routing table to store information. Features include protected mode, electronic keying, device-level ring network, and parallel redundancy protocol network support.

This module is a single-slot unit that can be installed in any slot of the ControlLogix chassis. It has one RJ45 port used to interface with the Ethernet network. Ethernet, being a user-friendly and modern protocol, is widely utilized today, especially with the evolution of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Devices capable of Ethernet protocol are well-suited for integrating with emerging technologies. Additionally, Ethernet is an open protocol, making network scalability easier to implement without relying on proprietary devices.

A single 1756-EN2T module can communicate simultaneously with a Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, programming workstations, distributed I/O clients, third-party devices, or any combination of these. It can handle up to 256 Logix and 128 TCP/IP connections.
