The 1771-DB/B is a PLC 5 Basic Module designed to facilitate seamless integration between a PLC-5 processor, the 1771 backplane, and RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 devices. It also supports communication with a remote SLC processor or device over a DH-485 network via its DH-485 port. This module enables fast, processor-independent communication, making it ideal for tasks such as data analysis, manipulation, and automated report generation. Additionally, it conserves processor memory by addressing complex mathematical and application-specific challenges.

The 1771-DB/B is suited for various remote communication applications, including connections to computers, printers, modems, and other third-party devices. It features a 500V DC isolation voltage (port-to-port and port-to-backplane), a 32 KB battery-backed RAM, and 24 KB of available user memory. It supports communication rates ranging from 300 to 19.2 Kbps. The module’s backplane current load is 0.75A when the DH-485 interface is active and 0.65A when the DH-485 port is not in use.

Additional features include a time-of-day clock with a resolution of 10ms and a maximum power dissipation of 4W. The module occupies a single slot in the I/O chassis and supports programming in BASIC and C. It includes two ports for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 connections, and one port for DH-485 connections. The module supports a range of BASIC statements and commands, along with 128 additional calls.

The 1771-DB/B is equipped with block-transfer capabilities, enabling efficient data transfer between the processor’s data table and the module’s memory, thereby reducing user programming requirements. For diagnostics and troubleshooting, it includes eight predefined and two user-defined indicators.
